Who We Are
In 2021 DMD Therapeutic and Behavioural Consulting was created with a focus on supporting boys with muscular dystrophy. After the closure of the Muscular Dystrophy Association in 2019, DMD Consulting felt the need to support the muscular dystrophy community through developing social groups and providing NDIS supports. DMD Consulting are always developing their knowledge and now work with boys & rare girls with DMD, individuals BMD, individuals with other neuromuscular conditions, and individuals with dystrophinopathies.
DMD Consulting now provide a wide range of capacity building services, social & therapeutic group opportunities, and training packages, and behaviour support Australia wide. Although DMD Consulting are not a non-for-profit and offer services through NDIS funding, we aim to support newly diagnosed families and those outside the NDIS as best as possible. DMD Consulting are currently unregistered, however are working towards becoming a registered provider.
We as an organisation we have organically developed therapeutic and behavioural consulting services to individuals we support including the individual, their families, their schools, and their wider support networks. These services include initial and ongoing assessments, face to face capacity building, training, consultation, resource creation for upskilling teams and individuals, and facilitation of social & therapeutic groups within the neuromuscular community, and behaviour support. As a provider, we have a comprehensive understanding of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and its impact on individuals and communities through lived experience & academic accreditation. This knowledge is specific and targeted and informs our practice in ways that a simple Google search cannot. We use this knowledge and experience to work towards our goal of improving quality of life for the individuals and their support networks.
What are we about?
Our approach is informed by lived experience and academic expertise, providing deep insight into neuromuscular conditions beyond surface-level understanding. Over the last 15 years, Michelle Pomeroy, director of DMD Consulting, has networked, presented, and worked with leading experts in the neuromuscular field. Now, we as a provider continue to work with the community, integrating qualitative and quantitative data to create highly individualised programs that address the unique needs of each individual across all home, school, and community environments. We value each person's unique circumstances and strive to provide the best support possible.
Our focus on the social model of support is designed to empower individuals with DMD, BMD, MD and other dystrophinopathies. By supporting them find purpose, establish autonomy, and achieve success in their lives, our holistic approach significantly improves their quality of life, reduces behaviours of concern, and fosters stronger relationships.
Our framework is not just about meeting clinical needs. It's about enhancing day-to-day living and creating inclusive communities. We provide opportunities for meaningful engagement for individuals with DMD and other dystrophinopathies, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose.
Our team is small and we all work closely to provide cohesive and consistent services to all of our participants and their families. Our team consists of Behaviour Practitioners, Developmental Educators and Therapy Assistants that work collaboratively and flexibly with those we support. DMD Consulting have admin staff who support the team with intake, scheduling appointments, and behind the scenes NDIS requirements. Our team works closely with the individual to hear their voice, find their purpose and achieve success within a community, and experience quality of life.
