Functional Capacity Assessments

At DMD Therapeutic & Behavioural Consulting, we can complete Functional Capacity Assessments (FCAs) for the individuals we support, as needed. These assessments are often required by the NDIS to demonstrate current capacity, support needs, and how disability impacts everyday life. FCAs can support plan reviews, change of circumstances requests, or applications for increased or more appropriate funding.

A Functional Capacity Assessment is a detailed report that outlines how an individual’s disability affects their ability to participate in everyday activities across a range of domains. The NDIS uses this information to understand what supports are reasonable and necessary, and how best to fund services to meet the person’s goals. FCAs provide a snapshot of current ability and identify areas where capacity building is possible with the right support.

1

Additional Information Gathering: We liaise with support teams, families, and other relevant professionals as needed to collect all the relevant information we need,

2

Collaboration with Allied Health: Where areas such as mobility or self-care fall outside our scope of practice, we work in collaboration with the individual’s Physiotherapist or Occupational therapist, getting their input through assessment data, observations, and specific recommendations they can sign off on.

3

Drafting the FCA: We compile all assessment data, observations, supporting evidence, and recommendations into a clearly written FCA that follows the guidelines provided by the NDIA.

4

Final Report: The FCA is provided to the participant and their support team and can be shared directly with NDIA or other stakeholders.
