DMD Therapeutic & Behavioural Consulting eNewsletter - Vol. 3

December 2025 Edition.

Welcome to Volume 3 of our newsletter! We’re excited to bring you more stories, updates, and insights from our community.

In this issue…

In our final edition for the year, we’re looking back on recent months and more broadly the rest of 2025. We’re sharing a new Success Story from one of participants launching a vintage fashion microbusiness, spotlighting our last Spin Kids outing of the year, and highlighting SHINE SA as a key place to find resources. We will share more Behind the Practice as we wrap up our 2025 student placements, thanking one of our valued Community Partners retiring at the end of the year, and rounding everything out with a final update from the team, as well as key dates for December/2026.

UPDATES FROM THE TEAM…

As the end of the year approaches, the team are all taking some well-earned time to rest and recharge over the holidays. We’ll be closing from Thursday 19th December and will return to services from Monday 6th January.

As we return in January, we’ll also be able to share our capacity for new participants across services, so if you are interested in connecting with us for services or have others to refer, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

UPDATES FROM THE TEAM…

We’re celebrating a fantastic milestone for one of our 19-year-old participants with Duchenne, who has taken his interest in vintage fashion and turned it into a budding online microbusiness. With support from Thomas and his support staff, he’s launched his very own Depop store, for now focusing on vintage and band tees, particularly in XL to 2XL sizing.

Following a structured weekly plan developed by Thomas and implemented with his support staff, he’s now curating listings, setting items, tracking sales, and managing communication with customers – all while developing real-world business skills, autonomy, and a sense of purpose. His first drop of seven items went live a couple weeks back, and within the first hour, he’d already received an offer. He’s since sold three pieces, with more listings to come. One customer even left a five-star review on an item they bought, saying “Perfect experience! Fast shipping, great communication, and the item is amazing”.

While this may look different to what we traditionally see as ‘work’, it’s a great example of how older teens and young adults with Duchenne can be supported to explore purposeful pathways and find meaningful opportunities that reflect their passions and strengths.

OUR SERVICES SPOTLIGHT…

SPIN KIDS TRIP TO SEMAPHORE

A few weekends ago, our Spin Kids Social Group enjoyed a brilliant day out at Semaphore full of fun, laughter, and connection. The afternoon began with a stop at Yo-Chi for some much-loved frozen yoghurt (always a favourite), before the group made their way down to the jetty for a walk along the foreshore.

To top it all off, the group wrapped things up with a spin on the classic Semaphore Carousel. All the participants joined in, showing both enthusiasm and some bravery, as even a few of the adults looked just a little less sure at first. But, everyone was glad they gave it a go, and there were smiles all round by the end.

It was a great opportunity for participants to connect in a relaxed, real-world setting, and a perfect example of what Spin Kids is all about. As an NDIS-funded social group, Spin Kids creates opportunities for young people with neuromuscular conditions to build friendships, try new things, and grow confidence through meaningful opportunities. Days like this show how fun and meaningful that can be. Check out the video from the day below!

Dates for Spin Kids in 2026 can be found at the end of this newsletter.

RESOURCE OF THE MONTH…

SHINE SA MEMBERSHIP

This month we’re spotlighting the SHINE SA Resource Library, a valuable asset for providers and professional organisations in South Australia supporting people with disability.

By becoming a member of SHINE SA’s Resource Centre, organisations gain access to a curated collection of educational & capacity building resources focused on sexual and relationship wellbeing.

The library offers books, teaching kits & programs, games & activities, flash cards and more that are inclusive, practical, and designed to support high-quality, affirming capacity building. These materials can be borrowed to support group programs or individualised skill-building covering a vast range of topics from puberty or relationships, all the way to teaching rights and responsibilities. It’s a great way to expand your toolkit without having to build a full resource library from scratch.

We highly recommend checking it out; it’s a great starting point for providers looking to deliver inclusive capacity building on sexual and relationship wellbeing. From there, resources can be tailored to meet the individual needs, interests, and skill sets stages of each individual. For the neuromuscular community in particular, where access to real, meaningful learning about sexuality and relationships can be limited, having adaptable tools like these makes a real difference.

BEHIND THE PRACTICE…

PLACEMENT STUDENTS

At DMD Consulting, we’re proud to support student learning, from university placements to high school work experience. Thomas, one of our full-time Developmental Educators, first joined us as a Flinders University placement student back in 2021, and this year we’ve continued that commitment.

In 2025, we’ve had two university students complete their placements with us, each bringing a unique focus while learning more about the role of Developmental Educators within the NDIS in practice and deepening their understanding of working with people with neuromuscular conditions like Duchenne. We also supported a Year 10 student on their work experience, exploring future pathways into therapy assistance roles.

While we’re not currently taking on placements as we look ahead to 2026, we’re grateful for the role these students have played. Supporting placements not only contributes to a stronger, more diverse future workforce, but also gives us the opportunity to reflect, grow, and continue shaping our own practice and services.

OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS…

CELEBRATING ALWAYS SUPPORTED BY K

As 2025 draws to a close, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kerryl Tattoli, who is retiring at the end of this year. Through her work as a Support Coordinator at Always Supported by K, Kerryl has been a trusted partner to many of the participants and families we work with. Her commitment to putting in the time with participants’ and families to do what’s truly needed, even when faced with hurdles, has always stood out.

Michelle has known Kerryl for many years, and all of us here at DMD Consulting have seen firsthand how her persistence, knowledge, and expertise have led to great outcomes for those she supports. She consistently went the extra mile to coordinate services and supports that were not only a good fit, but also meaningful and tailored to each person she worked with.

We wish Kerryl all the best in her retirement and thank her for the incredible impact she’s made across the sector.

COMING TO THE END OF 2025…

As we wind down for the year, we want to thank all of the participants, families, and providers who have been part of our community in 2025. It’s been another big year filled with new opportunities, great memories from our services, and important progress across the board, and we’re so grateful to be part of your journey.

We’ve put together a short video capturing some of the highlights from our services across 2025. It’s been a huge year for us filled with so many fantastic moments, and we’re proud to share just a few of those with you. Thank you all and we look forward to seeing you in the new year!
